Lightning in a Bottle
~ By Julie Breedlove, Marketing Manager
I’m relatively new to BQB Publishing, but I must admit, before I even knew what BQB stood for, I knew about Rude Awakenings. My colleague and friend, Katy Whipple, was working on it in pre-publication and she could hardly contain her excitement about it.
It spread.
The excitement was contagious and the more I heard about the book, the more I realized it wasn’t just Katy that realized its potential. This was far from a typical novel. This was a moment of creative brilliance. Lightning in a bottle … in a book.
The book received a pre-release review applauding it as ‘a home run.’ It wasn't even out yet, but like the thunderous roar before a rocket launch, the vibrations were building. The pulse quickens and is audible. Even palpable.
Keith M. Donaldson is an award-winning author. His craft has only improved, so I can’t imagine the attention his next novel will bring. Today’s sneak peek is not a paragraph or page within the book, this one will demand more from your senses and presents a preview you can see, hear, and feel. If you haven't watched the trailer, scroll back up the page and click the arrow: You’ll want more of this captivating story of controversy and suspense.

Rude Awakenings is “Scarily Relevant”, a Political Perfect Storm Novel
The perfect storm in American politics has been brewing in the real world, since the 2010 elections. The philosophical gulf between liberals and conservatives was alarmingly widened by that election, leaving millions of Americans in the middle with nobody representing them.
Rude Awakenings was written between late 2007 and July 2009 with a look into the future. It is about a group of Americans so fed up with Congress and the White House that they created the National Centrist Political Party in early 2011. What followed amazed even them.
While Conservatives and Liberals continued to throw bricks at each other in 2011 and 2012, Centrists were proclaiming their presidential candidate’s political philosophy across the country. No cheesy debates, but hundreds of town meetings, with no media getting between them and the American people. The conservative and liberal media pooh-poohed the Centrist’s viability, but 60 percent of American voters didn't, they got smart and went to the polls in droves, setting election-day records.
Rude Awakenings begins at 5:22:21 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 when a Secret Service agent awakens the new President to report that an American city has been nuked. With no Cabinet in place, a Congress fractured into three parties and his VP being flown out of Washington, he is rushed to the White House Situation Room.

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes; a principle which if acted on, would save one-half the wars of the world. The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." - Thomas Jefferson
In a bid to stem taxpayer losses for bad loans guaranteed by federal housing agencies Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) proposed that borrowers be required to make a 5% down payment in order to qualify. His proposal was rejected 57-42 by the Democrats because, as Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn) explained, "PASSAGE OF SUCH A REQUIREMENT WOULD RESTRICT HOME OWNERSHIP TO ONLY THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD IT." Maybe this kind of thinking is why he is no longer in Congress.
These are BUT a couple of the MANY reasons why Rude Awakenings was written. The American people must stop the US Congress from digging America into deeper and deeper financial holes, from which we may never extricate ourselves. This is about one approach to making a sweeping change.

…This novel, a finalist winner in mystery at the 2010 Indie Book Awards, is a disturbingly plausible projection of events surrounding our next REAL election."
"Author Keith M. Donaldson's cleverly interwoven themes of international terror, suspense, global financial manipulation, espionage and romance, make for an engaging mystery."
"Rude Awakenings is a disturbingly vivid portrayal of greed, deceit, political corruption, intimidation, and murder; all at the expense of the American people, and it has been going on for generations."
"Rude Awakenings… International intrigue, domestic turmoil, and a masterfully spun whodunit were a rude enough awakening to keep me turning the pages."
"Rude Awakenings describes political corruption and intimidation, and a brutal attack on America made possible by willful politicians who created a weak America ripe for financial and militaristic weaknesses. The Roman Empire was crushed because it didn’t take care of things at home. They became social and political hemophiliacs with no inner strength. Rude Awakenings is about giving Americans that last possible chance at redemption; the last chance of refilling America’s emptiness. We can ask God to bless America, but it is an empty request if Americans do work hard to earn that blessing".

Rude Awakenings is a fantastic story that serves as a window into the White House at a time when our Nation is besieged by attack and impending threats both foreign and domestic. As a self-described ‘Progressive Conservative’, the emergence of a Centrist party was a particularly intriguing premise; one that will also ring true for the growing numbers of Americans that are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the perception that the two parties are serving their own interests, rather than those of the American people. This book serves as a strong reminder that complacency, dependency, and waste can bring down the strongest economy; and if left to our continued compulsions of fiscal frivolity, then we too will in fact all be in for a very rude awakening. But beyond the politics that set the stage for a centrist President dedicated to reigning in the National Debt; the character, goals, and decisive leadership of this book’s hero – President Mike Macdonald are exemplary of how our nation should expect our president not just to act, but to perform. Through his understanding of economics, the international markets, and the strength of people relying on each other instead of a government, President Macdonald is able to set the course needed to right a nation on the brink of disaster. This is truly a great read and scarily relevant to the growing concerns we may soon be forced to face. -Walker Rutherfurd [Click to read more reviews] |
